Gold production

The mining production in Côte d'Ivoire is dominated by gold. The national gold potential is estimated at 600 tons located in the North, Central, West, and Southeast regions of the country. A total of eight (8) gold mines were in operation in 2021: Ity, Bonikro, Tongon, Hiré, Agbaou, Sissingué, Yaouré, and Daapleu.

Production has seen a steady increase from 2015 to 2023, rising from 23.54 tons to 51.185 tons, which represents an increase of 117.4%. The continued upward trend in gold production is primarily due to the combined effects of the strong performance of gold prices and the strengthening of control measures in mining operations. The production is mainly exported in its raw state.

Looking Ahead, based on the production achieved and advanced projects, the upward trend in mining production is expected to continue. Thus, gold production is projected to reach 52 tons in 2024 and 54 tons in 2025 with the commencement of production at the Lafigué gold mines (Dabakala) in partnership with the Lafigué mining company in 2024. Furthermore, the discovery in 2024 of an internationally-class gold mine with estimated reserves of 101 tons reinforces the sector's prospects.

Moreover, in order to promote local processing, which remains weak, the Government is committed to developing vocational training in this area as well as starting the construction of a gold refining plant by SODEMI scheduled for 2024 to ensure the processing of raw products locally.
