Ivory Coast: A budget of $1.13 billion dedicated to roads in 2025.
Ivory Coast affirms its ambition for infrastructural modernization with an ambitious road program for the year 2025. According to the Minister of Equipment and Road Maintenance, Mr. Amédé Koffi Kouakou, the country plans to complete the paving of 1,922 kilometers of new roads, an initiative that is among the strategic priorities of the government.
This ambition is supported by a budget of 703 billion FCFA (1.13 billion USD) recently approved by the Senate, intended for both the construction of new infrastructures and the renovation of the existing road network. In addition to the new roads, the allocations will cover the strengthening of 993 kilometers of roads already in service and the continuation of projects included in the Road Maintenance Program (PER) 2023-2025, under the supervision of the Road Management Agency (AGEROUTE).
In 2024, the ministry's performance reveals a completion rate of 52% for new paved roads, 91% for road strengthening works, and an overall execution rate of projects in line with annual forecasts of 75%.
The current momentum is part of a large-scale national strategy that, beyond intercity routes, also targets urban infrastructures. In Abidjan, the Abidjan Urban Transport Project (PTUA) has enabled the construction of several major structures such as the 4ᵉ and 5ᵉ bridges, interchanges, and essential road sections for traffic flow.
At the same time, the Road Management Agency (AGEROUTE) has committed to rehabilitating over 27,000 km of unpaved roads in the regions of Abidjan and the interior of the country by 2025. This initiative aims to improve connectivity in rural areas and support regional economic development.
With a national road network of over 82,000 km of classified roads and more than 200,000 km of unclassified roads, Ivory Coast aims to consolidate its role as a hub for trade in West Africa.
