Agreements and Conventions

At the conclusion of the 8th Joint Commission, held during the visit of the Head of Government of the Tunisian Republic, eleven (11) Cooperation Agreements and two (2) Protocols of Agreement were signed in the following areas:

  • Cooperation Agreement in higher education and scientific research;

  • Cooperation Agreement in the social field;

  • Health Agreement;

  • Cooperation Agreement in agriculture;

  • Cooperation Agreement in fishing;

  • Cooperation Agreement in construction and urban planning;

  • Transport Agreement;

  • Tourism Agreement;

  • Cooperation Agreement in ICTs (Information and Communication Technologies);

  • Cooperation Agreement for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs);

  • Cooperation Agreement for the promotion and development of handicrafts;

  • Protocol Agreement on vocational training and employment;

  • Protocol Agreement on integrated management and development of wetland and coastal water resources.

Additionally, Côte d'Ivoire and Tunisia have signed several Agreements and Conventions between 1965 and 1999, the key ones being:

  • Tax Convention signed in Abidjan on May 14, 1999;

  • Cultural Convention signed in Tunis on April 26, 1997;

  • Cooperation Agreement in Tourism and Handicrafts signed in Tunis in April 1996;

  • Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments signed on May 16, 1995, in Abidjan;

  • Commercial Agreement signed on May 16, 1995, in Abidjan;

  • Judicial Cooperation Convention signed on July 8, 1975, in Tunis;

  • Agreement on Air Transport signed on June 8, 1967, in Tunis;

  • Consular and Establishment Convention signed on December 2, 1965, in Abidjan.

As part of the cultural cooperation agreements, every year, a number of scholarships are granted to Ivorian students for further university studies at higher education institutions in Tunisia.

A. The main products exported are: rubber and rubber products; cotton; cocoa and cocoa preparations; coffee, tea, mate, and spices; wood and wood products; charcoal; various edible preparations.

B. The main products imported are: plastics and products made from these materials; salt; sulfur; earth and stones; plaster, lime, and cement materials; iron or steel products; pharmaceutical products; mineral fuels, mineral oils, and products derived from their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes; paper and cardboard; products made from paper pulp, paper, or cardboard.

  • The value of bilateral trade reached 55.1 billion CFA francs in 2023, compared to 48 billion CFA francs in 2022;

  • For the period 2019-2023, the average value of Ivorian exports is estimated at 6.52 billion CFA francs per year, compared to 39.52 billion CFA francs per year for imports;

  • The trade balance is negative for Côte d'Ivoire throughout the period.
